So what the hell happened with the FISA Amendments Act over the holidays? I made a short video for Cato explaining it.

Hmm, I enjoyed this video, but it seems only appropriate for preaching to the converted. The tone, especially at the beginning, feels like it is from some kind of conspiracy nut trying blow something out of all proportion. This is especially true of the background music.
As for actual policy — it would be nice if the courts could be trusted to cut such laws down to size. I imagine that the Founders would say that stone tablets are “papers” under the 4th amendment, and so are emails.

It is one of my perpetual worries in this area that, unfortunately, an accurate description of the situation can sound like nutty conspiracy theorizing. Anyway, the aim here is less to “preach” and more to explain what’s going on with the law to people who won’t have encountered much detail in mainstream news sources.

I personally found the video quite informative, and, uh, I probably wouldn’t be confused with someone in the tank for you or Cato.
