Will Blog for Food

April 22nd, 2009 · 8 Comments

You know, if it’s good enough for Marcy Wheeler, I may as well mention that I’m probably going to be living the penurious freelancer life for at least a few weeks while I figure out what I want to do post Condé-layoffs. I’m also going to be blogging here much more regularly in my newly copious free time. So if you’ve gotten a few bucks worth of amusement or food for thought here over the years and feel like harnessing the power of the market to signal as much, now might be a propitious time to coinsider hitting the PayPal tip jar on the right-hand menu. I’m not about to start auctioning off organs or anything, but a slightly thicker cushion would make the next month or so easier.  Similarly, if you’re an editor with a Julian Sanchez–shaped hole in your featurewell, I happen to be one of the world’s leading suppliers of Julian Sanchez. If this were a public radio pledge drive, I’d close with dark intimations that I may have to shutter the blog if funds are not forthcoming—but who am I kidding? I’m  logorrheic narcissist, and I’m going to keep doing this for free either way. But bear in mind, the less financial pressure I’m under to take the first available Real Job, the more time I have to ramble on here.

I’m now picturing you, Wile-E-Coyote style, slamming through the walls of various news outlets, leaving your silhouette behind.

If you are trolling for job offers, you should probably fix the spelling of “logorrheic.”

I’m not, actually — something like the opposite, really. But good catch.

Can donors expect a Julian Sanchez tote bag? Coffee mug? Maybe you should get Ira Glass to help with your fundraising drive.

You mean the “ready the dinghy” T-shirts aren’t going to be part of the donor “premiums” program?

I second the demand for “Ready the Dinghy” tshirts!

Get a job, you dirty hippy?

I mean, that’s what people told me when I wanted to make it as a full-time writer. Just passing along the wisdom.

I’ve already been making it as a full-time writer for seven years; I’m just taking couple weeks to figure out what my options are next.
