Redesign Preview

February 15th, 2008 · 9 Comments

So, I’ve started in on the site redesign, which will involve shifting to the WordPress content management system. I still have a lot of work to do in terms of creating new logo art, tweaking the colors, etcetera, etcetera. But the basic layout I’m planning to go with is here if folk have thoughts/advice/cries of horror.

A nice, clean look — I’m glad you’re losing the dotted line motif. But you need some color, my friend, color!

The quick links on the right hand side are hard to read.

Dude, how do you get the cool little facebook banner thingy on your about page??? (I also can’t figure out how people get their del.ic.ious & flickr feeds on their sidebars. Perhaps I am beyond help).

I advise against italicizing your block quotes. Slightly smaller font and shorter line height should set them off enough–along with the line.

Good job. It’s just a little too plain, maybe. It’d be just right, I think, if you chose a subtle color scheme for your banner text and your hyperlinks.

Also, I agree with Other Ezra about the blockquotes: no italics, please.

Looks good. There’s something slightly funky going on with the HTML WordPress is generating, though. A lot of the line breaks are created using <br> tags rather than <p> tags. Aside from enraging HTML geeks, this is affecting some of the spacing around blockquotes and paragraphs. Not a huge deal, but perhaps fairly easy to fix.

    Minimal. Chic. I like it.

I think it sort of looks like The Onion without ads.

Definitely a more sophisticated look, but maybe evokes a little ennui. I’m probably a bit biased though, I find the current layout kind of charming.
