GAH! Never Say That!

Andrew Sullivan:

From a conservative perspective, on spending, debt, big government, regulation, which Democrat could be worse [than Bush]?

This is like that scene in movies where the put-upon protagonists say “Well, at least it’s not raining,” at which point we hear a booming thunderclap.

Certainly, on certain aspects of fronts like big government and spending (i.e., health care), pretty much all of the Democrats are “worse” than Bush. At least, they claim that they are, and we Democrats mostly like that.

… err, which is to say that I’m wondering why Sullivan (and Bartlett, I suppose) doesn’t notice this rather obvious fact, since we Dems haven’t exactly been keeping it a secret. I think Obama would be a better president than Bush, but if you don’t like domestic spending, it seems silly to act as if Bush were so bad that no one could go lower when the Democratic candidates are promising more.

I think the libertarians, neocons and the religious right would have a better chance working together against the Democrats if they split up and searched different rooms.

Love makes fools of us all. Sullivan just gets smitten far more easily than the rest of us…
