Red Alert!

June 20th, 2007 · 1 Comment

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education does yeoman’s work drawing public attention to suppression of academic freedom on campuses around the country, but there are (sadly) so many cases each year that it’s hard to keep them all in perspective sometimes. Most university administrations make the occasional misstep, but many—sometimes with a little prodding—ultimately do the right thing and back off. The stories that initially sound worst are, for that very reason, often the most quickly corrected. So FIRE has produced a handy hall-of-shame, a new feature called Red Alert, to separate the occasional tipplers from the truly power-drunk.

What exactly does this website do aside from whinge about supposed slights? I generally like your posts but I’m a little lost as to what’s so great about this “FIRE” thing.
