I got tickets to see built to spill’s “perfect from now on” and mission of burma’s “vs” thinking that I would listen to the albums before going. which I didn’t. Oddly enough both concerts were better than the liz phair “exile in guyville” concert that I had listened to the album boatloads before going.

Won’t disagree about best album vs. better songs, or at least, most consistent album. I feel the same way about older modest mouse albums–compare Moon and antactica to Lonsome Crowded West. M+A is a better album, but I listen to LCW because a few perfect songs.

I wish they would play a good venue out here in PDX. Afte seeing them in some good places, it isn’t worth hearing it played out over mediocre sound systems.

Oh, and second: Hell yes. I'm partial to White Man in Hammersmith Palais. And I was bizarrely into a version of Bowie's Ashes to Ashes I heard Doug do solo once. Which, indeed, a quick internet search reveals is out there for the downloadin' in FLAC format.

Mmm, I think TNWWL and KILAS both have a lot of great, memorable, singable pop songs — for that reason I probably even listen to those two more often than PFNO. But PFNO is still at least arguably the stronger total work — and whether or not you agree with that, the only one that really demands to be heard *as an album*. I listen to particular tracks I like off the other albums; I almost always listen to PFNO whole.

This is sort of odd–first, because ‘There’s nothing wrong with love’ is better. Second, the covers Martsch adn co. do are awesome. My favorite conver moment ever was their cover of ’straight to hell’. nothing better since.
