There’s a certain sharpness to your audio that makes me think the compression is too high, relative to the debate clips.

Also…you’re moving around in the chair an awful lot.

agree with gregory on composition. focal point of interest should not be in the middle of frame — this is a dead composition. move the eyes to the upper third or the corner.

here’s the ‘rule of thirds’ — divide the frame into thirds from top to bottom. then divide into thirds from left to right. where the lines intersects is where the point(s) of interest should be.

look at most fine photography or movie stills and you’ll see what i mean.

would also suggest you move back a bit. then move the camera to exactly eye level. it doesn’t need to be in front, just at the same level. your camera is placed too high (considering how close you are to it).

if you move back you can keep the camera placement as is (or lower it to eye level).

check your focus. the camera seems to be focused on the books, not you.

If I may make two suggestions…

1.It would be awfully nice if you could get your volume closer to the volume of the clips you’re using—it’s a little jarring to have everything getting way louder every time you speak.

2.Turn off your IM client! The constant whoosh of people coming in and out is a little jarring.

But otherwise—very nice! Excellent use of video clips, which connects nicely to your thoughts in the past about what vlogging is for.

If I were a conservative hawk, the last thing I’d do is invoke Jack Bauer.

Jack Bauer doesn’t like Presidents who lie about WMD as a pretext for military action in an oil-rich region. He really, really, REALLY doesn’t like Presidents who do that.

Not a note on content, but style: when composing a photo of a talking head (such as yourself in your vlog) it is more effective to have your eyes in the top third of the frame as opposed to the center of the frame like you are currently doing.

This may mean, on close ups, that the top of your head is cut off, but that’s preferable to the center. There’s lots of reasons why that composition style is preferred- but for whatever reason, it will give your presentation a more professional look.

And- while I would agree that we should choose substance over style- there’s no reason not to choose substance and style when we can.
