Maroon… Teal… Everywhere!

February 21st, 2007 · 4 Comments

Is it just me, or have the last two or three years seen the gradual rise to near ubiquity of articles of clothing featuring big teal & maroon stripes? I was out with some folk at a local bar last weekend, and noted that one friend was wearing a scarf with that color scheme, which matched the shirt another girl in the place was wearing. My friend noted that the scarf actually matched another shirt her boyfriend owned. At which point I realized that I actually own two shirts like that myself. (Here’s one.) Who makes these decisions? And what is their nefarious agenda?

ADDENDUM: Holy crap, someone really did pick ’em.

They are called the Color Marketing Group. And yes, when it comes to the “diverging red” and “cooler reds becoming more chromatic” or the “sophisticated new introduction that bridges blue and green inspired by spa influences and ocean hues” (that is, I think, maroon and teal to us mortals), they did indeed choose those colors.

Pantone does color forecasting, too. Here are the colors we’re all going to be wearing in Spring of this year, as they decided last Fall.

Who works at this place? How could you live with yourself on a day to day basis by… picking out colors?

    Summary executions, I say!

Black. Goes with anything, never out of style.
